Kathryn T. Martin

Robert Y. GwinKatie has years of litigation experience, primarily in the area of long term care defense. She also has experience practicing in the areas of general medical malpractice defense, product liability defense, as well as handling other matters for health care companies and providers. She began her legal career as a law clerk for Franklin Circuit Court Judge Phillip J. Shepherd and in 2010, began working as an associate with Thompson, Miller & Simpson, PLC in Louisville, Kentucky, where she represented a wide range of long-term care companies, hospitals, physicians, nurses and other clients in medical malpractice, product liability and insurance defense cases. She began working for Frost Brown Todd, LLC in Lexington, Kentucky in 2012, where she was a Senior Associate. She worked for a year as an associate at Benson Law Offices, PLC, before joining GSB in August 2016.

Katie specializes in handling and understanding the issues that uniquely face long term care companies in litigation, including the defense of claims related to the state and federal statutory and regulatory scheme that governs the licensing of long term care facilities. She has taken and defended numerous depositions on behalf of long term care clients, retained and interviewed expert witnesses and handled all aspects of the discovery process in state and federal court proceedings.

Katie is a member of the Kentucky Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute, the Louisville Bar Association and is the current Treasurer of the Women Lawyers Association of the Fayette County Bar Association. She is also a 2012 graduate of the LBA’s Leadership program as well as a 2015 graduate of Leadership Lexington. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing tennis, being outdoors and good food and conversation.
