Gwin Steinmetz & Baird has been named as a 2012 “Go-To”
Law Firm, and will be featured in the 9th Annual "In-House
Law Departments at the Top 500 Companies," a guide produced
by ALM, the publishers of Corporate Counsel magazine. The
Firm was selected for the area of Litigation.
Go-To Law Firms were identified through research conducted
by ALM. Researchers first asked general counsel at the top
500 companies which outside law firms they turn to for
assistance. ALM also researched and gathered data on the top
500 companies Go-To Law Firms from various public record
resources including court dockets and securities filings, as
well as leading legal and business publications, including
The American Lawyer®.

GSB has been accepted for membership in the prestigious Kentucky Motor Transport Association. The KMTA promotes trucking safety through improved truck driver training, investment in advanced safety technologies and active participation in trucking industry safety initiatives. GSB attorneys Michael Sutton and Marilyn Patterson wrote an article that was featured in the Louisville Bar Association’s November 2011 health care issue of Bars Briefs. July 2011
July 2011 – Denis Wiggins defended a large, local paving company in a jury trial in Jefferson County, Kentucky in July of 2011. The plaintiff was hit in the rear by the paving company's large truck. He alleged a severe, shoulder injury and permanent disability after the accident in February 2009. Prior to trial, Plaintiff claimed damages of over $713,000. Plaintiff’s last settlement demand was $400,000. After the evidence concluded, the plaintiff reduced his total claimed damages to just over $380,000. The jury awarded total damages in the amount of $32,579.70, minus 10% comparative fault and a set-off of $10,000 for personal injury protection benefits paid. Plaintiff’s total recovery was $19,321.73, which was a mere fraction of his claimed damages, despite being rear-ended.

March 29, 2011 – GSB attorneys Robert Gwin and Michael Sutton were honored to be presenters for the Kentucky Association for Health Care Facilities “Legal Review in Long Term Care.” Mr. Gwin and Mr. Sutton provided a presentation on Arbitration Agreements in Long Term Care for KAHCF members.

June 2009
GSB’s attorneys recently defended a major grocery retailer in a jury trial in Woodford County, Kentucky. The plaintiff alleged severe injury and permanent disability after an accident in 2005. She sought $2.5 million in total damages at trial. The jury concluded, however, that the grocer was not at fault for the alleged injuries and returned a verdict for the defendant on June 19, 2009.
